Replacement Bridge at
Ashford Water Treatment Works
-
Structural Consultancy Services
Bettridge
Turner and Partners were originally commissioned by Southern Water
to carry out an assessment of the strength of the existing access
bridge into the wastewater treatment works at Ashford. The assessment
showed that the original bridge was not of sufficient strength to
carry the fourty-four tonne vehicles currently in operation.
The bridge
provides the only access into the works and failure would result
in the works not being able to function correctly. Therefore Southern
Water decided to replace the bridge and Bettridge Turner & Partners
were instructed to design a new scheme. As part of the works, a
temporary bridge was constructed beside the existing structure for
access purposes whilst the old concrete bridge was removed and replaced.
Total cost of works - Approximately £2 million
