Turner & Partners entered into a design contract with Bowsprit
Contracting to design the various refurbishment works required to
upgrade the drinking water treatment process . The refurbished works
would allow a higher standard of treatment, whilst also providing
a cost saving to the client, through the reduction of chemicals
used.
New 900mm
diameter pipework was installed to change round the flow pattern
and allow simpler dosing on the chemicals. To ensure a full understanding
of the operations at the water works, a test was carried out on
a model, which enabled the correct form of pumping the water through
the works and out to the customer to be determined.
The major
work was carried out in the existing contact tanks through the inclusion
of new division walls to increase the contact time of the chemicals.
Access into these tanks was limited, which necessitated a larger
opening being cut through the existing roof.
The total cost of the works is £1.65
million
