Drainage Flood Studies
BT&P currently hold the current flood models for several agencies
including the South Gloucestershire Internal Drainage Board in the
flood area of the River Avon. These complex models are vital for
new developments in the area to be tested in the model so that flood
compensation works can be assessed and new developments designed
to remain dry.
Planning Guidance Note 25 (on development and flood risk) was published in July 2001 and requires developers to submit flood risk assessments in support of their planning applications, especially in areas known to be at risk from flooding or where development could affect flooding to other properties. The assessments are required to address such matters as the likelihood, depth, speed and duration of flooding, together with the effects of obstructions to flows, such as from bridges or culverts. There is also a requirement for the consideration of sustainable drainage systems.
Bettridge Turner & Partners have prepared flood risk assessments for a wide range of developments throughout the British Isles involving river, coastal and groundwater flooding. If necessary, we can undertake computer modelling of floods and are experienced in negotiating with the Environment Agency on behalf of clients. We have been able to meet the Agency’s requirements in a large number of cases.
Our depth of knowledge enables us to provide a comprehensive service from the planning and feasibility stages, through to detailed design. We are responsive to our clients' needs, and continually monitor and develop our business, whilst maintaining a cost-effective service.
