Quarry Redevelopment at Northfleet in Kent- Remediation & Infrastructure Consultancy Services Bettridge Turner and Partners have designed and supervised a remediation scheme to enable the site to be developed for housing. The site was a chalk quarry and was partially infilled with up to 10m of contaminated waste material. BTP designed a scheme to cap the waste with a clean cover of imported fill, and then to surcharge it to reduce long term settlement. The houses were founded on rafts, and an impermeable gas membrane was incorporated to prevent landfill gas ingress. BTP also designed the highway and drainage infrastructure for this project.
